Tuesday 26 April 2022

6 pm – 7:20 pm

Newton Lecture Theatre INB0114 in the Isaac Newton building, University of Lincoln

Abstract: It is impossible to read Newton’s Principia without being astonished at the depth and breadth of his genius. I shall outline some of the ideas that so excited Newton’s contemporaries, and that have held later generations in awe.

Thank you for another enjoyable event.
Again smoothly organised, very welcoming, and good topic/speaker.
I look forward to future talks.
Could we have something linked with the beauty of maths/ overtly mathematical art. Great/ Contemporary artists expressing mathematical concepts / research.
    Many thanks. Peter

I have recently been reading a little about philosophy so thought why not? when I saw the talk advertised … now my maths and physics level of education are at about o level standard with a few add ons as I will look details up when I read science fiction (imagine my joy of having an idea what the three body problem was about – ha ha ha)… but despite being wholly ‘under-educated’ in therms of the talk I still enjoyed it very much – I speak English as a foreign language so know about the challenges of translating etc. The lecture was extremely engaging and well delivered.
Whilst I will try to be a little more careful with my choice of subject matter I will definitely be on the lookout for more lectures to attend. Thank you to all involved for setting it up.
